Feedback on Feedback: When the Feedback system premiered a couple of weeks ago, we expected a few problems -- most of which involve members leaving posts that should be asked in questions, rather than in the Feedback. So we're reposting the guidelines:
- Use common sense. Remember, the person you flame today might be the person who can answer your question tomorrow.
- Don't use Feedback to ask a question or to explain one.
- You're not required to leave Feedback.
- The Membership Guidelines apply. Abuse the system, and you'll lose the privileges.
Spoofing: We received an email from a member saying they didn't like the fact that we told people to go to a financial institution's webpage to report spoofing because spoofers leave a handy little link in their emails so you can update the information -- which, of course, gives the information to the spoofers. Their advice: delete the email. We'll stand by our suggestion -- but make sure you're actually going to the financial institution's website. No reputable financial institution will ever ask you for information via email, nor will they provide links within emails for you to follow. You can certainly delete the email... but that won't help the banks catch the crooks. |

Note from a member: "I just wanted to send a note of gratitude and appreciation for the great service you provide. Although I'm fairly proficient, only needing your service once to date, I really enjoy staying plugged-in with your email newsletters. All the best and may you all at Experts Exchange have a great week." Thanks from all of us for the kind words. |

Hotmail to offer 250MB: Whoever said email was destined for the graveyard hasn't read the latest news. In an effort to keep up with Google's new GMail and Yahoo, Microsoft has decided to up the ante for their own email free service. While likely to stem the flow to other providers, it's unlikely that we'll see hotmail accounts auctioned off on eBay anytime soon. The Search is the Thing: Getting listed on Google's #1 spot is turning out to be a search for the digital Holy Grail. So much so, that two companies are even sponsoring a contest to see who can pull it off. Many companies, and even personal blog sites, are doing whatever they can to achieve that glorified position, whether it's ethical or not. Read on to find out why in business, sometimes it's the game that's most important. Read the entire article.

rcmb
rcmb, a retired Naval Officer, spent 23 years in the submarine force before moving on to "bigger and better things". We're glad he did, as his contributions to the Microsoft FrontPage topic area have been exemplary. In fact, he's just earned his very first EE certificate. Congratulations Curtis.

One of the hardest-working Page Editors we have, seanpowell is the owner of his own design firm, and somehow manages to scrape out a living while spending what seems like 24/7 on Experts Exchange. Thanks for your great work, Sean!

ee_ai_construct
Runner-up to Lunchy among the Mods for weirdest sense of humor. AI (or "re-order part number #xm34", as he calls himself) joined EE in March 2003, and managed to join the Millionaire Club in about six months. He told us he enjoys helping people, so we took him at his word and asked him to join the Moderators in March 2004. Following a long contract -- he makes more than twice the $0 the rest of us get -- he finally accepted, and we're glad he did.

Tip from the Page Editors: It's all about communication. EE's Experts are a fanatical bunch, and will go to extraordinary lengths to get to the bottom of your problem, but not without your help. Keep track of the comments that have been posted to your question, answer any requests for more information, and don't forget to close the question out once you're happy. Remember, the Experts need you just as much as you need them :-) |

One of the least-known new features at Experts Exchange is our new Link Exchange. Our Link Exchange program is beneficial to both sites in a couple ways:
1. The number of resources available to users on both sites will increase
2. Site relevance is increased within all major search engines when a site provides links to and from quality resources
If you would like to swap links with EE, just fill out the form at the Link Exchange page. |

The Associated Press reported Friday that a new trojan horse virus, dubbed Download.Ject by Microsoft, may be aimed at stealing credit card and other valuable information through hundreds and possibly thousands of infected Web sites. The infection appears to take advantage of three separate flaws with Microsoft IIS 5.0 and Internet Explorer. Microsoft said software updates to fix two of them had been released in April, but the third flaw was newly discovered and had no patch to fix it yet.
The infection makes subtle changes to the Web site so visitors get a piece of code that's designed to retrieve from a Russian Web site software that records a person's keystrokes and can send data back. MacIntosh versions of Internet Explorer are not affected. Security experts are certain that until Microsoft releases a patch, the flaw will continue to be exploited. Both Symantec and Computer Associates have fixes listed on their websites.

Sometimes the speed at which comments come pouring into your question can be overwhelming. To new members, it can be confusing how to handle the situation, especially when more than one Expert suggests a workable solution. If you're unsure how to handle it, just ask. Our Experts our as friendly as they are smart, and will often help you close out your question to everyone's satisfaction. |
